The 1971 War in the Eyes of Pakistanis

In 1971, West Pakistan and East Pakistan fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War. This led to the creation of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971. The Pakistani army committed one of the worst genocides in modern history in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. At least three million people were killed, thousands were raped and some 10 million were displaced and forced to flee the country. These massacres are known throughout the world. But what did the Pakistani people see, know, and think about the war? After 53 years, this question about the 1971 war is asked to different people, in the film “The 1971 War: in the Eyes of Pakistanis”. Pakistani Armies, businessmen, workers living in East Pakistan during the war era, and, in today's younger generation, office workers, politicians, the Pakistani-Bengali community, and ordinary people have expressed their thoughts in this film. Notably, the then-eminent bureaucrat of the Ministry of Information, who later became a writer and politician, Mr. Rowedad Khan (1923-2024) was interviewed. He apologized for the killing of millions during the war on behalf of the people of Pakistan.
